Visual Resources Library
The Visual Resources Library contains a collection of over 100,000 art slides, 3500 lantern slides, 6,158 digital images, access to ARTstor, LUNA Insight, Facebook, and 700 art books. The collection ranges from prehistoric to contemporary images of Western and non-Western art and architecture in a variety of media customized to the art courses offered. The facility houses slide and flatbed scanners, 35mm and digital still and video cameras, digital projectors, drawing tablets, slide projectors, document camera, copystands, and computers.
Tech Talks are available weekly on a variety of topics related to learning and discussing technology in the field of art. Schedule Fall 2015, training videos and handouts are available on EMU Visual Resources in FaceBook and in the Media Center, Ford 212. There are now videos available of some of the presentations (Photographing and Shipping artwork) and a handout on Adobe Lightroom CC.
In addition to housing the collection of images and materials for research purposes, the VRL has digital video and photography equipment available for checkout by both Art faculty and students. Here is a list of available equipment for checkout. Undergraduate students need permission to use some of the equipment designated to have signed a faculty signed authorization form. Check out is available to Art faculty and students only.
Large Format Color Printing
There is now a 44 inch wide Epson Large Color Printer in Media Services Ford 215. Printing is available for all Art Department students enrolled in art classes 300 and above (also ARTS 290 Studio Concepts) and faculty with up to 30 square feet of printing per semester (40 square feet if enrolled in more than one studio class). The large format print request form (include 2 pages) needs to be signed by a student's professor prior to use. A handout for large format printing guidelines is also available.
On-line Image Resources
ARTstor is a digital library of images, their associated information, and software tools designed to enhance teaching, learning, and scholarship. The ARTstor Digital Library contains over 1 million art images. ARTstor is available for use by all EMU faculty and students.
The Luna Insight Art Department Image Collection is a password protected database of art historical images available for faculty scholarly and classroom use. To access Art faculty login in with current emich account information.
The EMU Artists Collection is a public accessible image database of thesis artwork by degree conferred graduate students.
Other on-line resources
A Research Guide with links to: web resources, digital images and art museums. Including: Grove Art Online, The Art Newspaper- News, AICT (Art Images for College Teaching), Artcyclopedia, Toledo Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art and more.
