Scholarships

Each year the School of Art & Design Awards approximately $35,000 in scholarships to undergraduate students. They are competitive awards based on need and/or merit. To receive an art scholarship, students must be admitted to EMU, declare ART or K-12 Visual Art Education as a major, fill out an ART scholarship application and show a sample of their art work. The following scholarships are awarded within the department:

Art Scholarships

  • Thomas K. Venner School of Art & Design Endowed Scholarship awarded to either a graduate or undergraduate outstanding major or minor art student.
  • Barbara E. Scott Brundage Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student in Art.
  • Sandra Braun Memorial Scholarship (need based) awarded to an outstanding student in Art.
  • Helen I. Kuehn Memorial Scholarship awarded to entering first year students in Art.
  • Iris Ann Cody Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student in Art.
  • Bob Morris Memorial Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student in Art.
  • Robert Oren and Lynn Sarosik Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student in Art.
  • Emil & Juanita Weddige Scholarship awarded to outstanding students in Art.
  • Adnee Palmer Pearson Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student in Art.
  • Ellen Wilt Endowed Scholarship awarded to a female returning student in Art.
  • Dorothy Lamming Scholarship awarded to students pursuing graduate studies in Art.

Media-Specific Art Scholarships

  • Dennis Baggaley Memorial Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student in Printmaking.
  • Byron G. Bakalis Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student in Photography.
  • Kingsley Calkins Award (need based) awarded to an outstanding student in Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media, Printmaking or Sculpture.
  • Donald and Betty Drummond Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student in Theater, Music or Art.
  • Arthur Rockall Scholarship awarded to an outstanding graduate student in Sculpture or Metals.
  • Pat Williams Scholarship awarded to outstanding students in Fibers.

Art Education Scholarships

  • April Memorial Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student in Art Education.
  • Judy Loeb Artist/Educator Award awarded to an outstanding student in Art Education.
  • Lucie Ann McCall Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student in Art Education.
  • Anne Taubitz Townsend Memorial Scholarship awarded to an outstanding graduate student in Art Education.

Requirements and Deadlines

The deadline for art school scholarships is in February of each year. Students must fill out the Art Scholarship Application [PDF] and return to the art office.

Various scholarships are available through the College of Arts and Sciences. For other non-art scholarship opportunities, students should contact the Financial Aid Office.
