Special Events as part of King Kong at Ninety

“King Kong” (1933) and “The Son of Kong” (1933) Double Feature Movie Night, Feb. 2, 5 p.m. - 8:45 p.m.: This event includes a gallery tour and light refreshments during intermission. The first movie begins at 5 p.m. and the second at 7:30 p.m. The showings are co-sponsored by EMU Campus Life and EMU Art Galleries. They are connected with the “King Kong At 90: Visualization in the Art of Stop Motion Animation art exhibit.”Guests can attend in the auditorium of EMU’s Student Center, 900 Oakwood St. in Ypsilanti. 

An Introduction to the Archive of The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation, Feb. 7, 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.: The community is invited to view the archives collection, which holds over 50,000 items related to the film career and personal life of Ray Harryhausen (1920 – 2013). Harryhausen is the master stop-motion special effects artist for the classic films “The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms” (1953), “The 7th Voyage of Sinbad” (1958),  “Jason and the Argonauts” (1963), and “Clash of the Titans” (1981). This speaker event is in connection with the “King Kong At Ninety: Visualization in the Art of Stop Motion Animation art exhibit” hosted by Connor Heaney, collections manager of The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation. Attendees can engage in this experience in the auditorium of EMU’s Student Center, 900 Oakwood St. in Ypsilanti. 

Key speaker event for “King Kong At 90: Visualization in the Art of Stop Motion Animation” art exhibit, Feb. 8, 7 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.: Event goers can check out a panel of guest speakers, including Greg Kulon, a Los Angeles based independent scholar, and researcher of the history of Stop-motion animation, Heaney, and Ben Harry, curator of Audiovisual Materials and Media Arts History of the L. Tom Perry Special Collections of Brigham Young University. Guests are welcome to attend in the auditorium of EMU’s Student Center, 900 Oakwood St. in Ypsilanti.
