Event: Children from the Children's Institute visit Metalsmithing Studio

The children visited the Metalsmithing studio during the Beginning Jewelry class and were treated to a show and tell about lighting the “big” torch, using the rolling mill to make a very long and thin “snake” out of copper. They also saw a demo on how to cut a circle and drill a hole. The children returned the next week with drawings on sticky notes and the students in Beginning Jewelry cut out the shapes from brass and had the children help them drill a hole and sand the edges. The pieces from their original designs were placed on a ribbon and the children had a pendant to show to their friends and families.

The beginning students loved working with the four year olds and the studio was filled with many smiles.
